🎬 Background

Miracles from Heaven, now streaming on Netflix, first premiered in theaters in March 2016.
It tells the real-life story of Annabel Beam, a young girl from Texas who suffered from a rare and incurable digestive disorder, but recovered miraculously after falling 30 feet into the hollow trunk of a tree.

The movie, based on the memoir by her mother Christy Beam, depicts the family’s faith, suffering, and eventual healing. Actress Jennifer Garner plays Christy, and Kylie Rogers plays Annabel.

🌳 The Miracle Fall

In December 2011, 9-year-old Annabel was playing with her sisters when she accidentally fell headfirst into a rotted, hollow tree — roughly equivalent to falling from a third story. She was trapped for several hours.

Miraculously, she survived with no major injuries. Even more astonishing, her chronic intestinal motility disorder — once considered incurable — appeared to be gone.

Annabel later said she visited Heaven during her time inside the tree. She described meeting Jesus and wanting to stay, but He told her,

“No, Annabel, I have plans for you on Earth that you cannot fulfill in Heaven.”

🏥 Her Illness

Annabel had been diagnosed with two rare gastrointestinal conditions:

Pseudo-obstruction motility disorder
Antral hypomotility disorder

These made it impossible for her body to digest food properly. She was in and out of hospitals for years, unable to live a normal life — until the fall changed everything.

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Annabel said:

"Believe it if you want to. We wrote this to help people have stronger faith, not to force anyone. It's not to hurt people, but to help."

🎥 How Accurate Was the Movie?

Director Patricia Riggen said the film’s events were true but slightly compressed for screen time.
Jennifer Garner emphasized how the movie portrayed Christy and her husband Kevin’s relationship as loving, unified, and emotionally strong — just like in real life.
