🎽 《The Robe and the Pit: The Beginning of Joseph’s Story》
— A Literary Devotional Narrative in English
He wasn’t the oldest.
He wasn’t the strongest.
But he was the most loved.
Joseph, son of Jacob and Rachel—
the son of the beloved wife,
the child of Jacob’s old age.
And Jacob didn’t hide it.
He gave Joseph a gift.
A robe.
Not ordinary—
a coat of many colors.
Each thread woven with affection,
each color a reminder:
“You are special.”
But in a household already scarred by jealousy,
favor felt like fire.
His brothers watched him wear it.
They saw him walk past,
colors flowing behind him like a princely banner.
And envy boiled.
Then came the dreams.
Joseph saw sheaves of grain bowing to his own.
He saw the sun, moon, and stars bending toward him.
He told them—
not to boast,
but in innocence.
But they heard insult.
Entitlement.
Threat.
“Are you really going to rule over us?”
And hatred grew.
One day, Jacob sent Joseph to check on his brothers,
tending flocks near Shechem.
He wandered in search of them—
his robe shining under the sun.
They saw him from afar.
And someone said:
“Here comes the dreamer.”
The robe that once symbolized love
now became a target.
“Let’s kill him.”
But Reuben, the eldest, spoke:
“No blood. Throw him into the pit.”
A dry cistern.
Dark.
Cold.
Empty.
And Joseph fell.
They stripped the robe.
The colors now stained with dust and betrayal.
And as Joseph cried out from the pit,
they sat down to eat.
Soon, a caravan approached.
Ishmaelites on their way to Egypt.
Judah spoke:
“What will we gain if we kill him?
Let’s sell him.”
And they did.
For twenty silver coins.
Joseph watched his brothers’ backs
fade into the horizon.
He was bound.
Betrayed.
Alone.
The dreamer…
was on his way to slavery.
And God—
God went with him.
Even in chains,
He was not forgotten.
For every robe torn away,
God was weaving a greater story.
