💼 “Meant to Text My Friend, Accidentally Told My Boss I Was Faking Sick”
– Slack: Where Secrets Go to Die
Brooklyn, New York. 2022.
It was a Friday afternoon at 3:17 PM.
The sun was out.
The drinks were cold.
The group chat with the boys was heating up.
And Tyler G., 27, had a plan:
“I’ll fake a headache, log off early, and be at the bar by 4.”
So he opened his phone,
typed this message:
“Yo. Just told my boss I got a killer migraine. 😂
Gonna ‘rest’ at Union Pub 🍻 Meet me there!”
And hit send.
Only problem?
He sent it to the wrong chat.
💬 Where Did It Go?
Not to his friends.
Not to his fantasy football group.
Not even to his dog-walking app.
No.
He posted it in:
#General
Slack. Company-wide.
64 employees. Including the CEO.
🧊 Panic Ensued
His screen lit up like a Christmas tree:
-
😬 “uhhhhhh…” – HR
-
🤡 “bold strategy, Cotton.” – Accounting
-
💀 “I needed this today.” – Random intern
And finally:
His boss, Amanda, replied:
“Enjoy the migraine. We’ll talk Monday.”
🍻 What Happened Next?
Tyler showed up to Union Pub anyway.
His friends were already buying him shots.
He became an office legend.
On Monday, Amanda called him in.
But instead of a firing,
she slid a paper across the desk.
It was a custom Slack mug that read:
“#General Migraine Club – Founding Member”
She said:
“Next time, take a real PTO.
And send it to the right damn chat.”
😂 Moral of the Story?
Technology is great…
until it tattles on you.
Then it’s hilarious. For everyone else.
