⚰️ 《The Long Journey Home: Joseph Mourns Jacob》
⚰️ 《The Long Journey Home: Joseph Mourns Jacob》
— A Literary Devotional Narrative in English
The tent was still.
The patriarch was gone.
Jacob—the son of Isaac,
the one who wrestled with God,
the father of a nation—
had breathed his last.
And Joseph wept.
Not just as a son…
but as a man who had finally come full circle.
He fell on his father’s face.
Kissed him.
Held the silence like a sacred flame.
Then he turned to his physicians:
“Embalm him, with honor.”
Forty days of embalming.
Seventy days of national mourning.
Even Pharaoh grieved.
Then Joseph went to Pharaoh’s court:
“Let me carry my father back to Canaan,
to the cave he bought with his own silver.
There, with Abraham and Isaac, he asked to rest.”
Pharaoh replied:
“Go. Bury your father, as he made you swear.”
And so the caravan began.
Not a funeral of whispers—
but a royal procession.
Chariots. Horsemen.
Sons. Servants.
Egyptians and Hebrews.
They crossed rivers and deserts.
Until they came to Atad,
beyond the Jordan.
There, Joseph mourned again.
Seven days of lamentation.
He tore his garments.
He bowed low.
The Canaanites saw and said:
“This is a grievous mourning for Egypt.”
Then, they came to Machpelah.
The cave of Abraham.
The promise still buried in stone.
And they laid Jacob to rest—
not just with tears,
but with hope.
But when they returned to Egypt,
the brothers were afraid.
“Now that our father is dead…
what if Joseph seeks revenge?”
So they came to him trembling.
They bowed low again.
“Please forgive us,” they said.
“Before he died, our father asked us to beg your mercy.”
Joseph looked at them.
And wept again.
Not out of anger,
but grief that they still didn’t understand his heart.
“Do not fear,” he said.
“Am I in the place of God?
You meant evil against me,
but God meant it for good…
to save many lives.”
He comforted them.
Spoke kindly.
Held no record of wrongs.
And so,
as Jacob was buried,
forgiveness was resurrected.
The story that began in betrayal
was now crowned with mercy.
