✨ 《From Abram to Abraham – The Name of a Nation》
— A Literary Devotional Narrative in English
He was ninety-nine.
Wrinkled hands.
Tired eyes.
A heart still waiting.
The stars had been promised.
But the crib remained empty.
And then God came again—
not just with comfort,
but with covenant.
“I am God Almighty—El Shaddai.
Walk before me faithfully and be blameless.” (Genesis 17:1)
Abram fell face down,
dust clinging to his forehead.
He didn’t speak—
he just listened.
“No longer will you be called Abram.”
“Your name will be Abraham,
for I have made you a father of many nations.” (v.5)
It was more than a name change.
It was a destiny change.
"Abram" meant exalted father.
But Abraham—
that meant father of multitudes.
And Sarai, too—
“She shall be called Sarah,
and I will bless her
and give you a son by her.” (v.15–16)
Abraham laughed.
Not in disbelief,
but in wonder.
Could a man this old
and a woman so barren
hold the beginnings of nations?
Yes.
Because the covenant
was not based on their strength,
but His.
God then sealed the promise
with a sign—circumcision—
a mark of identity,
belonging,
obedience.
And in that sacred act,
Abraham stepped
not just into promise—
but into purpose.
