🏜️ 《The Desert and the God Who Saw Her》
🏜️ 《The Desert and the God Who Saw Her》
— A Literary Devotional Narrative in English
She ran.
Not with hope—
but with heartbreak.
Sarai’s anger
had burned hotter than the sun.
And though Hagar had carried the child,
she carried rejection far more deeply.
Pregnant.
Alone.
Unwanted.
She collapsed beside a spring in the wilderness.
Far from Egypt,
far from safety,
far from anyone who might care.
And then—
He came.
“Hagar, servant of Sarai,
where have you come from,
and where are you going?” (Genesis 16:8)
No one had asked her that.
Not even herself.
She had just run.
But now—
she was seen.
“Go back to your mistress and submit to her,”
the angel of the Lord said.
“I will increase your descendants so much
that they will be too numerous to count.” (v.9–10)
A promise
to a runaway.
A future
for a woman discarded.
And about her unborn son,
the voice said:
“You shall name him Ishmael—
for the Lord has heard your misery.” (v.11)
She lifted her eyes,
wiping away both dust and tears.
And she gave God a name:
“You are the God who sees me.” (v.13)
El Roi.
Not just a God who reigns.
But a God who notices.
Who enters the wilderness.
Who speaks to the invisible.
She returned.
Not because the pain was gone,
but because the promise was greater.
And in her womb—
a nation was already growing.
