💍 《By the Well: The Story of Rebekah and Isaac’s Marriage》
💍 《By the Well: The Story of Rebekah and Isaac’s Marriage》
— A Literary Devotional Narrative in English
Isaac still remembered the mountain.
He remembered the ropes.
The silence.
The fire.
And above all… the voice that called him back from the brink.
Years had passed since then.
Sarah was gone now.
Abraham was old.
And Isaac—though blessed—was alone.
Abraham summoned his oldest servant.
“Swear to me,” he said,
“that you will not take a wife for my son from the women of this land.
Go to my country. To my family.
And bring back a wife for Isaac.”
The servant bowed.
His heart was loyal.
But the journey ahead was long—almost a thousand miles across desert and dust.
He loaded ten camels,
and with a whispered prayer,
he set off.
Days passed.
Then weeks.
One afternoon, weary and sun-stained,
he arrived at a well outside the city of Nahor.
There, as the golden hour painted the sky,
he prayed:
“O Lord, God of my master Abraham,
grant me success today.
Let it be that the young woman who comes to the well and gives me water—
and offers water for my camels too—
let her be the one You have chosen for Isaac.”
Before he finished speaking,
she came.
Rebekah.
Graceful.
Strong.
Kind-eyed.
She carried a jar on her shoulder,
moving with quiet purpose.
The servant ran to her.
“Please,” he said, “give me a little water from your jar.”
And without hesitation, she replied:
“Drink, my lord.
And I will draw water for your camels also…
until they have finished drinking.”
Ten camels.
Each one able to drink gallons.
She didn’t flinch.
She didn’t hesitate.
She drew water again and again.
Not for show.
Not for praise.
But because kindness flowed from her like the well itself.
The servant watched in awe.
“This… is her.”
That night, at her home,
he told the whole story.
The oath.
The journey.
The prayer.
And how Rebekah walked right into it—
like a thread perfectly woven into God’s design.
Rebekah listened.
She did not cry or delay.
When asked, she said only:
“I will go.”
And so she journeyed—
across the desert,
toward a man she had never met,
but a promise she already trusted.
In the field at dusk,
Isaac looked up.
He saw the camels.
He saw her.
And when Rebekah saw him,
she veiled her face.
Isaac took her into his tent.
He married her.
And the Scripture says—
“He loved her.
And he was comforted after his mother’s death.”
A love story not born of romance,
but of providence.
A meeting arranged not by chance,
but by God’s hand at the well.
